By dealing with stigma after facing challenges to his own mental health, Mike has found a successful recovery from bipolar disorder. After Mike’s final hospital stay in 2001, Mike has had significant success in multiple careers. Mike has settled in nicely as a Child and Youth Worker, also with continued dedication to his own family and children. Mike aims to convey his insights and experience when given the platform. Mike is often able to suggest solutions to problems that he has solved for himself along the way. He has also published on the topic of “Effective self-management strategies…” that applies to all mental health, in the Journal of Affective Disorders in 2016.

Mike is a father of four, a retired Red Seal electrician and foreman, and an avid student of stigma and mental health. He is still involved in research after publishing with the University of British Columbia, Department of Psychiatry in 2016. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1997, while battling life-threatening episodes of bipolar disorder. After leaving the electrical trade in 2015, Mike has been a support worker and a full-time child and youth worker since 2021. As an inspired hobby, Mike writes lyrics and music. Mike has over 260,000 words towards mental health and poetry on his website. Mike also creates and posts songs by composing guitar for the lyrics and then recording new song ideas with guitar and vocals, once per month since 2021.
