Stigma-Free Presenter – Position Description

Do you have a passion for stomping out stigma? Are you keen to share your personal story of challenges and triumph?

Stigma-Free Mental Health Society (SFMHS) is a national registered charity currently recruiting presenters from Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Southeastern Alberta, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Regina to facilitate and present their story for the “Stigma-Free Presentations Program.”

Stigma-Free presentations take place in-person at local schools and virtually over Zoom/Teams. Virtual presentations are typically 45 mins in length, while in-person presentations are approximately 1 hour. We deliver presentations to groups of students in grades 4-12.

We are seeking Presenters that can fill both roles:

Co-Presenter – Must have a deep understanding and passion for mental health and strong presentation skills. Using our presentation slides, Co-presenters must share information in an exciting and engaging way. The Co-presenter controls Zoom/Teams, answers questions from students, and ultimately acts as a host/guide throughout the presentation.

Personal Story Presenter – Must be comfortable sharing their story of mental health/mental illness and/or an intersecting form of stigma (i.e. learning disability, race, sexual orientation, etc.) to large audiences. The Personal Story Presenter must have strong presentation skills, be willing to practice their story so it feels natural and be comfortable answering questions about their personal story from students.

Requirements:

  • Must be 14+ years of age
  • Must have reliable internet and full ability to use Zoom/Teams
  • Must be willing and available to present in-person presentations at local schools
  • Must provide a clear background and Vulnerable Sector Check

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Applicants must complete a 20-30-minute interview with SFMHS
  • Successful applicants must complete mandatory training (8-10 hours total)
  • Be on a booking roster for when we have schools/organizations interested in booking a virtual or in-person presentation.

The Perks:

  • All Stigma-Free presenters receive an honorarium for their time. You will receive $150 for the training and $75 for each virtual presentation you complete successfully.
  • You will always be paired with another presenter when presenting virtually so you aren’t alone!
  • You will have the ability to inspire others, stomp out stigma, and make a positive impact on young people’s lives!
