Meet Kathryn

Kind, Compassionate, Curious

Strengths:

I am dedicated to communicating with people of all ages in a way that encourages engagement and mutual respect. Growing up in a family affected by mental health and substance use challenges shaped how I choose to interact with others and the path I’ve taken in my work. Kindness, compassion, non-judgment, and a genuine desire to learn are central to my approach. I strive to create space for open, respectful conversations where people feel heard and valued. I believe there is much that we can learn from one another when we move beyond stigma and toward authentic listening and meaningful connection.

Nutrition and mental health, Stress and the nervous system, Building self-confidence and resilience, Self-care and wellness, Supporting family members with mental health and substance use challenges, Men’s mental health, Accessibility and inclusion

Kathryn is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner (CNP) based in Peterborough. She is a graduate of Trent University and the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, and a member of the Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Practitioners (CANNP).

As the founder of Kathryn Matheson Nutrition, Kathryn is a passionate advocate for the importance of nutrition to mental health. She works with individual clients, provides research and public education services, is a certified Qigong (chee gong) instructor, and is a member of the team at Horizon Family Naturopathic Clinic. Kathryn also volunteers with the Peterborough Food Action Network (PFAN) and the Basic Income Peterborough Network (BIPN) and feels strongly about working to address the root causes of food insecurity.

Kathryn was struck by the dramatic improvement in her mental health that occurred when she began to make nutritional changes to support her own biochemistry and life situation. What began as a journey to find a solution to regular migraine headaches, took her in an entirely new direction both professionally and personally. She looks forward to sharing her experiences with students in the hope that they can develop lifelong strategies for supporting their mental health and overall wellbeing.
